Im a european guy born in the late 80s who have come to Cambodia to live a easy laidback life.
I first came here in 2015 to now consider Cambodia my new home as i sold of my last things in my home country.
Why i choosed Cambodia? Well, actually i never thought i would love a country and its wonderful people like i did as soon as i came here, or, after a couple of weeks when i learned the country. The impressions you get as a 1 week tourist can be different from when you spend days living out in the province meeting "real" cambodian people.
Its cheap, people are very friendly, warm and generous despite not having much themself.
At the same time i allways feel very safe here. Not see much crime. No inner conflicts (beside maby the political one that could blossom). Just pay for the visa. Good looking girls. Cheap beer. What more can you ask for?
But at the same time im humble when i talk to locals. Not bragging about the easy life i live here. They can often not understand what i talk about. Why someone want to live in a dirty poor country where people make 120$ a month sharing a 1 room apartment with 10 other people.
How do i fund my stay here? I was lucky and got of alot of money when i sold my apartment that made it able to come and live here not having to work. This gives me alot time over to study the language (even if i should try alot harder) and in time i will probably look into volunteerwork to fill out my time with.
